• Serve in a citizen’s capacity, promoting the organization’s goodwill and best interests at all times, without financial compensation
  • Accept as my personal duty, the responsibility to conduct myself with competence, fairness, impartiality, efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Abide by the legal and fiscal responsibilities of the organization as specified by its charters, bylaws, policies and all applicable federal and provincial statutes
  • Prepare for, regularly attend, and actively participate in board meetings and committee assignments
  • Contribute to ongoing planning, review, evaluation, and modification of programs and services as needed
  • Protect and respect the confidences entrusted to me and comply with adopted policies pertaining to confidentiality
  • Learn and consistently use designated channels when conducting board business
  • Vote according to my individual conviction, challenge the judgment of others when necessary and willingly support and uphold the adopted policies and decisions of the board
  • Endeavour to provide adequate human and financial resources to the organization to ensure long-term benefits
  • Avoid any interest or activity that is in conflict with the conduct of my official duties, and declare my conflict openly and refrain from discussion and voting on that issue or matter
  • Understand the role of the board as a policy-making and direction-setting body and avoid participating in operational issues by choosing a capable Executive Director who will be accountable for program implementation and administering the day to day affairs of the agency.
